Using Apps With Young Children

Media and young children is a hot topic in the news and in libraries. For many librarians, the question is not IF they use media in programs and services for children, but HOW. Whether integrating an app into storytime or recommending sites and strategies to caregivers, librarians are seen as important literacy, and digital literacy, guides.

Mother Goose on the Loose, a new app based on the award-winning early literacy program by Dr. Betsy Diamant-Cohen, encourages users to engage with the story. Read how the app creators recommend using the app with a child through these extension activities.

If you're curious about they way children and caregivers interact with each other using books and media, plan to attend the 2014 Growing Wisconsin Readers Early Literacy Symposium where engagement is the theme of the day.
