(400 Eau Claire St.)
Featuring Dr. Dipesh Navsaria and Jim Gill
This workshop is designed for librarians, early childhood teachers, childcare providers, and anyone else who works with children and families! Please invite others! Register by April 17
10:15-12:15: Books Build Better Brains with Dr. Dipesh Navsaria
Dr. Dipesh Navsaria is a pediatrician at American Family Children's Hospital who is deeply involved in Reach Out and Read, an initiative that makes literacy promotion a standard part of pediatric primary care, so that children grow up with books and a love of reading. This talk explains brain science behind Reach Out and Read, and we will discuss methods of bringing this information to a wider audience, too.
12:15-1:00: Lunch (you can sign up for lunch onsite, bring your own, or head out to get something quick)
1:00-4:00: Music Play with a Purpose with Jim Gill
Jim Gill’s music has been a storytime staple for many years. Come hear this energetic and contagiously enthusiastic musician and child development specialist talk about the ideas behind music and play, and get some great ideas to bring back to your own setting. Jim will also talk about way music and play can make your storytime or program more inclusive for children with a variety of developmental needs.
This workshop is sponsored by the Indianhead Federated Library System with support from the Institute for Museum and Library Services. If you have questions or need accommodations to participate, please contact Leah. Please register by April 17.
