Screen Time Before 2?
Dr. Dimitri Christakis of the Seattle Children's Research Institutemade headlines last week for his stance that some screen time before age 2 is OK. You can read a summary of the article for the journal JAMA or read/listen to an interview on NPR. Dr. Christakis also gave a TEDx Talk on the topic of children and media in 2011.
There is a lot of conversation in library land concerning
young children and screen time. In a nutshell, active is better than
passive, educational content is better than entertainment, and shared
experiences are better than solo. Of course, the context and the child
must be considered, and ultimately balance and moderation need to be determined
by the parent.
