Connecting with Low-Income Parents and Caregivers
SPELL, Supporting Parents in Early Literacy through Libraries, is a project from the Colorado State Library. The SPELL team has reviewed existing studies and undertaken new research to create a blueprint of promising practices for libraries and other agencies to deliver early literacy information and resources to low-income families with young children.
The blueprint contains practical applications for public libraries or other organizations that serve low-income parents for how to put the SPELL findings into practice. It is scalable, customizable, and easy-to-use. The document is a work in progress, but the current version offers great ways to build relationships, apply methods, and take action. See this previous Growing Wisconsin Readers blog post about a SPELL webinar.
