The Arapahoe Library District in Colorado recently revised their early literacy communication strategies used during storytimes. Their efforts were two prong--they wanted to improve methods for empowering parents and caregivers as well as incorporate elements from the new Every Child Ready to Read (ECRR2).
Melissa Depper, an Arapahoe Library District librarian, chronicles their storytime modeling and messaging tactics in a phenomenally helpful article from Children & Libraries: A Journal of the Association for Library Service to Children. A chart outlining sample activities and message pairs (including early literacy practices and skills) is a handy resource for anyone reflecting on their early literacy storytime methods.
