2015 CLEL Bell Picture Book Awards for Early Literacy
The Colorado Libraries for Early Literacy (CLEL) Bell Picture Book Awards are given to books that provide excellent support
of early literacy development in young children.
For more information visit http://www.clel.org and select the CLEL Bell Awards tab.
The five winning books of 2015 consist of one title in each of five categories selected from a shortlist of 25 titles. Each category represents an early literacy practice: Read, Write, Sing, Talk, and Play. The books, in their content, theme, or design, support caregivers’ interaction with their children through these five early literacy practices. Research has shown that engaging children in these practices builds language skills and prepares children to become successful readers.
On the CLEL Bell website, click on the winning book's blue ribbon to download an activity sheet with bibliographic information, annotation, and ideas for extending the book with children.
